Results {#sec3} ======= When the model is fit to the data, it provides a prediction of the mode of action, *E*~*f*~. The latter is the value of the prediction for the species-specific *F*~*t*~ such that all the environmental conditions are of the *F*~*t*~th level ([Fig. 2](#fig02){ref-type="fig"}). In [Fig. 2](#fig02){ref-type="fig"}, the blue line represents the predicted mode of action, *E*~*f*~, of the applied pesticide; the green line represents the model prediction of the mode of action of the nonapplied pesticide. The range of the nonapplied pesticide has been set to be between the predictions of the applied pesticide and the predicted threshold of the nonapplied pesticide. This plot provides information about the mode of action and the toxicity of the pesticides. The applied pesticide shows a strong mode of action. This can be explained by the fact that it shows high toxicity to the fish. The mode of action of the nonapplied pesticide is a relatively weak mode of action but still within the range of the strong mode of action of the applied pesticide. In other words, at all but the lowest level of environmental conditions, the mode of action of the nonapplied pesticide is still within the toxicity range of the applied pesticide. The model, therefore, is a method to predict the mode of action of pesticides and toxicity to the desired species. Conclusions and outlook {#sec4} ======================= The new developed model takes into account the fact that toxicity is more prominent for high levels of environmental conditions. This was done through the introduction of the thresholds for toxicity and for the mode of action, which depend on the level of the environmental conditions.
